Fairbooks

It’s a Self-Publishing platform dedicated to the world of FanFiction. The literary phenomenon made up of all those works that borrow characters or worlds from other books, comics, cult of cinema or music.

This is a phenomenon that fascinates millions of writers all over the world, who want to continue reading and writing about the worlds and characters they fell in love with. So far, however, writing FanFiction has always been "illegal": using worlds or characters from other authors is a violation of the intellectual property of rights holders. There have been several complaints from bestseller authors against fans who were, in fact, writing their stories using their intellectual properties.

Fairbooks wants, for the first time, to give the opportunity to all authors and readers to cultivate their passion without risking legal problems. This is why Fairbooks is born: an online platform where authors can write and read their favorite FanFiction. Everything was based on the website (www.fairbooks.co) and application (available on iOS and Android) through which you can read, comment and follow all the most exciting productions.

Advertising and Premium Account pay authors for their work.

Also a marketplace for editorial skills, where authors can find the help they need.

Publishing houses could test new books before a global launch by sending selected readers some preview chapters.

The website

We create the first authorized and free web platform for Fanfiction where you could:

Find thousands of books by your favorite genre or author.
Become part of the community and exchange opinions, get feedback on a book or chapter. Share, follow, get notes, save quotes, comment, replay and even more.
Start your own saga or write a good romance or horror story and in an easy way, publish them.

Or… just find your next favorite book.

The experience

Working on this project, my second start-up experience, was really enriching.

In a startup environment, you learn things that you will never learn in a studio. Being in contact with people from all over around, programmers, CEO, marketing managers, designers, developers made me expand my knowledge.

We had the chance to collaborate with Mondadori and Leonardo Patrignani making an unpublished fanfiction publication of Multiversum Saga.

I learned about the world of publishing, UX/UI design, coding and social media campaigns. I have handled all things related to the design of web pages and app user interfaces, social media, landing pages, book covers, and corporate identity.

Unfortunately, the project came to an end one year and a half after its creation. We received a start fund from Luiss EnLabs but it was hard to go ahead, most of the time we found difficulties in terms of laws and privacy policies and permissions.

However, it still remains a really good sensation about this project.
